SESSION: State of the International Superyacht Industry
Brendan O’Shannassy began seafaring at 17 with the Royal Australian Navy. After nine years naval service, he undertook commercial training to command harbour tug, barge and offshore support vessels in Australia and Asia.
Notwithstanding experience as a naval officer and holding a commercial master’s qualification, Brendan made the transition to yachting as a deckhand in 2001 before working his way up to captain. Since then, he has overseen the build of and captained a number of high-profile yachts.
Brendan’s strongest passion in yachting is for seafarers to be extended a duty of care in their workplaces. Mentoring and coaching are key tenants of Brendan’s belief that due to the increased size and complexity of modern yachts, crew need to ‘step up’ and be worthy of their roles.
The full line up of speakers will be announced over the coming weeks, keep an eye out on our Superyacht Australia social media channels!
