Jones Bay Superyacht Marina (JBSM) has been officially designated as a Biosecurity Entry Point (BEP) under the Biosecurity (First Point of Entry—Port of Sydney) Determination 2019, becoming only the third facility in Sydney Harbour to receive this status.

The designation, granted by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), follows a comprehensive assessment of the marina’s infrastructure, operational procedures and biosecurity risk management systems. The amendment to the determination took effect on 27 March 2026, formally authorising JBSM to receive international vessels, including associated baggage, biosecurity-controlled waste and customs entry requirements.

This milestone reinforces Jones Bay Superyacht Marina’s position as Australia’s Global Marina, offering a compliant, secure and highly specialised arrival point within immediate proximity to Sydney’s CBD.

“This recognition is a significant achievement for our team and reflects years of investment in systems, training and infrastructure to meet the highest national biosecurity standards,” said Marina Manager Scott Cotton. “It enables us to provide a seamless and compliant arrival experience for international superyachts, while supporting Australia’s strict biosecurity framework.”

The First Port of Entry (FPoE) designation follows a significant 2024 redevelopment of the marina, which transformed the facility into a purpose-built superyacht hub capable of accommodating the next generation of large vessels. The redevelopment delivered enhanced berthing infrastructure, upgraded utilities, improved security and operational systems and purpose-designed spaces to support international arrivals and regulatory compliance. This investment has been central to JBSM achieving FPoE status and strengthening Sydney’s position as a premier destination for global superyacht traffic.

David Good, CEO of Superyacht Australia, welcomed the designation, noting: “Jones Bay Superyacht Marina now has the largest superyacht berth in Sydney and one of the largest on Australia’s east coast, making it a natural clearance point for vessels entering the country.” He added, “With the superyacht sector contributing over $3 billion annually to the Australian economy and supporting more than 22,000 jobs, streamlined access through facilities like Jones Bay will further strengthen industry growth and economic impact.”

The FPoE approval confirms that JBSM meets all regulatory requirements under the Biosecurity Regulation 2016, including:

• Robust biosecurity incident response procedures, with 24/7 operational readiness
• Approved waste management systems for international vessels
• Secure and controlled berthing and isolation capabilities
• Comprehensive staff training and biosecurity awareness programs
• Strong coordination with government agencies and approved treatment providers

As part of its approved operating model, Jones Bay Superyacht Marina is expected to accommodate a number of international superyacht arrivals annually, primarily from the South Pacific region, including Fiji, Tahiti, Vanuatu and New Zealand, with peak activity anticipated between October and April.

The FPoE status further enhances Sydney’s capability to attract high-value international superyachts, particularly in the lead-up to major events such as New Year’s Eve on Sydney Harbour, while maintaining the integrity of Australia’s biosecurity system.

This latest recognition builds on JBSM’s recent industry accolades, including Australian Marina of the Year 2025 and Superyacht Service Provider of the Year 2025, underscoring its leadership in superyacht marina operations across the region.
